Introduction: 6 Old Money Sweaters
By now, you are probably well aware that the sweater is the quintessential old money item that can improve most of your outfits.
That being said, choosing the perfect one may be difficult, because there is such a variety of them out there.
There are two things that you should be aware of throughout this post:
You should always favour natural fabrics over synthetic materials.
Wool is a timeless fabric that screams old money, whereas polyester is a cheap plastic that will ruin your outfit.
Also, always go for natural, earthy colors such as beige, white, cream, brown, olive green and navy.
A pink sweater will not make you look old money, but rather it will just get people to stop you on the street for your Ken autograph.
Number 1: A simple v-neck sweater
Now, gentlemen, this sweater can be on either navy, grey, cream, green or brown and, whereas during the summer you could’ve thrown it over your shoulder Italian style, during the winter you are going to want to wear it over your shirt.
I prefer tucking my sweaters in, for a cleaner, more organised look, but this is definitely debatable.
Many men would prefer leaving them untucked, so in the end it’s all up to your personal preference.
Number 2: A cable knit sweater
For your more sophisticated outfits, replace the plain sweater with a cable knit one.
Wearing it in the right combination will give you the smooth and seductive look of a Ralph Lauren model.
Naturally, as with all clothes in general, you must make sure that it fits you properly.
An ill fitting sweater can make you look either boyish or overweight - two things that no man would want.
Number 3: A quarter zip sweater
Now, gentlemen, let's talk about the third essential piece in your old-money-inspired sweater collection: the quarter-zip sweater.
This one's a bit of a modern twist on the classic sweater, and it adds a touch of versatility to your wardrobe.
This type of sweater is perfect for layering.
You can wear it over a crisp dress shirt for a polished look, or you can even throw it on over a plain tee for a more relaxed, yet still refined, appearance.
This type of sweater is perfect both for dressing up and down
Number 4: The cricket sweater
For many of us, this is going to be the most expensive sweater in our collection.
Obviously, you don’t have to go for a Ralph Lauren one, but if you do, it will set you back about 300 dollars.
Now, i don’t know about you, but many people would frown at the thought of spending that amount of money on a sweater.
Investing in quality is worth it.
And if there is one thing worth buying from Ralph Lauren, it’s definitely sweaters.
After all, you will be investing in a timeless clothing item that you will be able to wear for the next ten or even twenty years.
This cricket sweater is probably the most Old Money item you will ever own.
It looks extremely good underneath a shirt and tie, and it will make you look like a true gentleman.
The cricket sweater, with its timeless design and heritage, is a symbol of understated elegance and sophistication.
Number 5: A turtleneck
This is the perfect way to dress down, yet still look sophisticated at the same time.
Plus, let me give you a golden nugget of information: Girls absolutely love guys in turtlenecks.
I don’t know why, but they do.
They look best in black, burgundy, emerald and cream.
My favourite thing to do is to combine turtlenecks with coats.
I mean, just look at how great this looks…
Number 6: A button down cardigan
To complete your Old Money look, you could try a button down cardigan.
It works perfectly well with a shirt and tie and it will give you that British Old Money vibe.
Exuding a sense of timeless elegance, it offers very versatile layering possibilities.
